SOFTBALL CLASSIFICATIONS (REVISED: 2/10/2008)
The United Softball Committee, consisting of ASA, NSA and STX USSSA State
Directors and other independent tournament promoters, have agreed to the following
classifications for the 2008 softball season:
MEN’S CLASS B

MEN’S CLASS D
All other teams that have 1 or fewer Elite List players may enter 2008 as D teams.
MEN’S CLASS E
State Directors of each respective association will determine which teams are allowed to
play E, if such a program is even offered.
It is important to remember that both the teams and the respective players are being
classified. Any attempts to disband and re-form will be closely monitored and dealt with
accordingly.
APPEAL PROCESS
If a team wishes to appeal their re-classification, they may do so by participating in 3
quality tournaments in their new classification, beginning February 1, 2008. After a team
has participated in the required number of tournaments, the team manager may submit the
results of the 3 tournaments (number of games played, opponents, game scores, and
finish), along with a copy of the team’s official roster (USSSA and NSA – roster must be
online on the appropriate website, ASA – roster must be on file with the Texas ASA
Slow Pitch State Director) by email to one of the Committee members listed below. The
appeal will be reviewed by the United Softball Committee and a timely decision will be
made and conveyed to the team manager.
ELITE PLAYERS
Teams must understand the Elite Player List and the maximum number of players from
that list allowed to play in each classification. However, being at or under the maximum
allowed for a classification does not necessarily mean a team can play in that
classification. Some players worthy of being on the Elite List have not been identified by
the Committee, so the overall strength of a team may require them to play a higher class
even if they meet the Elite Player requirement. Finally, attempts to circumvent the system
by claiming nicknames, middle names or otherwise will not be accepted and may result
in penalties up to and including suspensions.
LOUISIANA TEAMS
The Committee has assigned classifications to the following Louisiana teams who play in
Texas frequently. Other Louisiana teams will be classified as needed.
CLASS B: DEM, Lake Charles Gamblers, Focus, Big H, OWC, Potty Time
CLASS C: La Prospects, La Freaks, Mike's Club & Lounge, La Heat
COMBINING OF DIVISIONS
This list is only intended to classify teams in groups and DOES NOT preclude individual
tournament directors from combining divisions at particular tournaments, as needed.
However, Committee members agree that if any divisions are combined then all members
of that classification must be included.
NATIONAL CLASSIFICATIONS
Teams who feel they cannot be competitive at a national tournament in their assigned
classification may appeal their "national classification" to the appropriate director for the
national tournament they plan to attend. This will not affect their classification in Texas.

2008 TEXAS “ELITE” PLAYER LIST
In addition to the above team re-classifications, the United Softball Committee has
instituted a 2008 ELITE PLAYER LIST for the State of Texas. This list consists of
players that, in the opinions of the members of the United Softball Committee, represent
the best players the state of Texas has to offer. Therefore, the players on this list may play
with teams classified as follows:
E Class – 0 listed players on roster
D Class – 1 listed player on roster
C Class – 4 listed players on roster
B Class – 5 or more listed players on roster
This list is a work in progress and may be amended from time to time by the United
Softball Committee as necessary. It should also be noted that according to the rules and
by-laws of the different associations, the respective directors have the power to classify
teams as they see fit, according to that team’s level of play.
NOTE: It is not the intention of the United Softball Committee to create hardships and
prevent players from playing with their friends, but rather to make sure that teams are
participating in the correct class according to the players on that team, for the good of the
game in the state of Texas.
